Engagement Photo Shoot for Nadia & Barry

Nadia and Barry wanted their pre-engagement shoot at the place where they will be married later in the year, Armathwaite Hall.  This majestic building set amidst beautiful grounds, sits at the North end of Bassenthwaite Lake which is technically the only Lake in The Lake District as all the others are either water, tarns or mere’s.

The weather was a bit overcast as befits a typical Lakeland day of light rain, pockets of sunshine and strong winds, then out of nowhere, serene calmness.

Having a coffee and a detailed chat about Nadia and Barry’s wedding plans meant gaining a deeper understanding of how the various pieces of the jigsaw fit together from a Bride and Grooms perspective.  This chat also provided the ideal opportunity to build up an emotional connection towards the day itself.

As a wedding day unfolds so fast this background knowledge is invaluable; after all you can’t turn the clock back and go back 3 weeks after the wedding.  Couples always find this reassuring and helps settle themselves on the day; safe in the knowledge that all the important details are being captured.

After the coffee and chat, we set off outside to capture some intimate shots in the adjacent woodland.  During the photoshoot, I was conscious to avoid photographing against the background of the main building, beautifully manicured lawns and Lake views which will figure more prominently on their big day.

Nadia (who has the most stunning blue eyes) and Barry (who is an all round nice guy) are parents, soul mates and clearly very much in love.  Once they forgot about all the trials and tribulations of work, childcare arrangements, they began to relax and were an absolute joy to photograph.

Their connection was evident for all to see in these beautiful images in what for many is a most special part of the world.

Bekki & Matts Rainy Day Engagement Shoot, Latrigg.

Bekki & Matts Engagement Shoot, Latrigg.

‘Bekki, Matt, there’s a 60% chance of rain for your engagement shoot tomorrow, it’s totally your choice.’

The response I received was, ‘We are absolutely good to go ahead with tomorrow, if that’s okay with you – most of our free time is spent outdoors in the rain anyway so it’ll just make it even more authentic!’

Getting to know Bekki and Matt on their engagement shoot was fun. I first met this lovely couple at Armathwaite Hall Wedding Fayre, where they booked me to photograph their wedding. They had chosen Latrigg, overlooking Keswick and Derwentwater; an extra special place to them as this was where they got engaged.

Overlooking Keswick and Derwentwater.

Finding out that they are keen walkers, climbers, runners, triathletes and cyclists turned them into my ideal clients. Enjoying a coffee after the photo shoot Matt explained they had cycled from John O’ Groats to Lands End because he preferred the acronym JOGLE to LEJOG (Lands End John O’ Groats.) I had cycled LEJOG to enjoy the spectacular views as I cycled up Glen Coe.

The rain didn’t disappoint, having to wipe the raindrops of the camera lens and the usual photographers’ problem of keeping the camera dry; but Bekki and Matts love of the outdoors and each other shone through. As a wedding photographer in the Lake District and Cumbria I’m used to photographing in the rain, providing those stunning photographs whatever the weather! I’m really looking forward to photographing Bekki and Matts wedding at Armathwaite Hall in 2018.

This year, I spent my birthday of Sunday 5th March at a Wedding Fayre at a beautiful new wedding venue in the Lake District.

Rothay Manor, Ambleside opened to guests in 1936 has recently been refurbished. Retaining its Regency features, it’s classical, elegant and provides a beautiful quiet wedding setting in the heart of a busy Ambleside. Even better, its just been awarded 4 AA stars.

Rothay Manor Hotel

With 19 luxury bedrooms, this could be your exclusive wedding venue. The perfect place to book for the weekend to chill, relax and enjoy your wedding with your guests.

To say the food is amazing is an understatement. Brandon who already has 2 AA rosettes and his team will make your wedding a culinary occasion to remember.

The picturesque grounds are perfect for drinks, guests to mingle and of course a backdrop for your wedding photography!

Dogs are welcome at the venue, meaning your fur baby can be a guest of honour or hold a more significant role; as ring bearer or flower girl.

February 29th–  Viva la difference

As The go to Lake District Wedding Photographer, I love celebrating differences, quirkiness, and anything else that is unique. Many romantics will have carefully planned this special day to pop the question, to their hopefully new fiancé.

So where do you start your search for a photographer.  Well it is a bit like the TV quiz show, Who wants to be a Millionaire.  You can phone a friend, ask the audience (Social Media), take a 50/50 punt, or simply go with your own instinct.

Let us cut to the chase here as I will make your life simple; choose me !! Rather than a one size fits all model, I prefer a Viva la Difference approach and listen carefully to each couple and tailor my service specifically to your needs.

I love photographing the small often overlooked details together with the big moments as your story unfolds so these moments are captured forever.  The short time spent alone with you are used to capture timeless intimate shots that reflect the mood of the day through shifting light.  Being based in The Lake District with its notorious rain means I always carry spare umbrellas !

The connection and trust between us is important and that is why an engagement photo shoot is essential in establishing this relationship.  For your chance of winning a free engagement photo shoot in The Lake District, just answer one simple question by contacting me.

Plus five lucky couples get the chance of a 50 % discount provided they got engaged on 29th February, to celebrate what is after all the most unique date on the calendar.

Good luck on your new journey together.

Guinness World Record – Photographic Consultant

On 12 Dec 2015, at Princess Noura University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, an event has been organised by Princess Reema Bint Bandar Al-Saud to break the current world record of gathering the most women in one place into the shape of a pink ribbon to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. Bear in mind that this will be no mean achievement as women’s rights are not at the top of the agenda within the Kingdom. Remember this is a place where women are not allowed to drive as it affects their ovaries and so this puts this attempt into some sort of perspective, ie against the odds.

I was approached to help out in a consultative role in the latter stages of the planning stage and was able to steer the enthusiastic volunteers in the right direction. As the event will be held at Princess Noor University, an all female establishment, therefore, permission was given for me to meet the team on a dark, windy evening in November. I was able to help out with a number of logistics including planning where to take the photograph, which equipment to use (Sony A7s has an ISO of 409,600 enabling images to be taken in the dark without flash and using a small aperture you get tack sharp images) and advising on other technical matters.

I have my pink t-shirt in support, but as it is an all female event, I can only support from afar on the day and wish the team all the best in breaking the record which the city of Jeddah currently holds.

Hello world!
